Hiroshima: Onomichi

February 1, 2018

Onomichi (尾道)

Onomichi is another coastal town that is quaint with an old-fashioned atmosphere, but more modern than Tomonoura. It is home to a lot of creative projects so one can expect lots of insiration to be found throughout the city.

In 2015, Onomichi had a mini famous-moment with Hiroshima Tourism Board’s Google Street View project that’s mapped from a cat’s perspective. You can see the world through a cat’s eyes and explore restaurants and shops in the area.

Onomichi U2

We settled our lunch at Onomichi U2, located at the starting point of Setouchi Shimanami Kaido – the only connection between Honshu (Japan’s main island) and Shikoku possible by foot or bicycle, also a famous Sea Crossing Cycling Route for cycling enthusiasts, where you can enjoy a ride as you appreciate the calm serene Seto Inland Sea. read more

Hiroshima: Tomonoura

January 22, 2018

In my previous blog post on Hiroshima I have covered the city and Miyajima, the most popular tourist destination in Hiroshima. But that barely scratched the surface of what Hirshima has to offer.

During my visit, I also visited a few lesser-known attractions, which I will be sharing today. I think if you have an extra day or two, it is definitely worth exploring these more unfrequented spots.

Tomonoura (鞆の浦)

Tomonoura is an old port town located in Fukuyama City with more than 1000 years of history.

To get there, your best way is to take a bus from Fukuyama Station. read more

Hiroshima City & Miyajima Island

January 19, 2018

The trip was back in Oct 2017 and it was the beginning of autumn in Japan. I really need to catch up with the travelogues!

The trip was made possible with SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, who launched their first ever Japanese destination. Yes! Now Singaporeans can all fly directly to Hiroshima!! 😀

The flights to Hiroshima are running three times a week, and as a full-service airline, you get to enjoy wireless in-flight entertainement, free baggage allowance and of course yummy local and Japanese delicacies! read more

Hiroshima

May 31, 2017

I am feeling very powerful now, because I have just visited the most sacred shrine and the second most sacred shrine in Japan, one after another in two days.

In the previous post I went to Ise Jingu in Mie Prefecture, and the next day I thought, let’s keep rolling and I decided to travel to Hiroshima. Hiroshima is one of the more popular destinations in Japan that I have not visited, and I was very excited to tick it off my #47prefecture bucket list.

Hiroshima is my 27th prefecture. 20 more to go. read more
