So one day, i asked TK (when we were still together that time), “what’s like the everyone’s favorite fashion brand in Japan?”
I would expect him to be all, man, are you kidding me? There are like a million brands and fashion subcultures it is almost like asking, where’s God? There are so many different answers!
But without even thinking, he says, “Yunikuro“. (Yes that is how it’s pronounced. I mean, you can’t blame me, i have heard people pronounce it as “Unique Loh!” before. -_-)
I was appalled.
UNIQLO?
Like, srsly?
“But, i thought it’s like, selling just basics like tank tops and plain color cardigans and jeans and scarf and long johns???”
TK laughed.
“Mada mada wakattenai na Rin-chan. Shinjite kure, ore ha baka yakedo, fassyon ha tokui yade.”
(Well if i must translate this, it goes, in Kansaiben, “You really haven’t got it have you? I may not be that bright but when it comes to fashion, you really have to trust me.”)
Which i did, because, to be honest, he is good at fashion, zero doubt about it. Well, he was the one who changed my fashion sense forever, so i give him that.
I still didn’t believe him, until we met a few Japanese friends of his. And when i asked about where they normally shop, the answer was always UNIQLO. In fact i know someone who travels all the way to Singapore just to shop in UNIQLO FTL.
So i looked UNIQLO up and saw this in their About page.
Rather than dictate a look, UNIQLO provides people everywhere with the piece they need to create their own style. And style comes from within, which is why the UNIQLO logo is nearly invisible, tucked away inside the garment.
This concept, along with an unwavering focus on quality and value, has guided UNIQLO’s actions since the establishment of its first store in 1984 Hiroshima, Japan. Today UNIQLO has grown to over 900 UNIQLO stores worldwide and is a household name in Japan.
SO HUMBLE I ALMOST TEARED!!!!
This is like the first brand that says that they don’t wanna dictate a look. Which brands doesn’t want their big logo visible and shouts all “Oh look, that ensemble is so *inserts brand’s name*!”
Now i get it. It sort of taught me a lesson that sometimes you don’t have to be so IN YOUR FACE to succeed. Ok maybe from nao on i will call myself “Iamnotcheesie”.
And with that, slowly i became infected with this idea that, i am actually in love with UNIQLO. Without me having actually bought anything there. #inception wtf.
Except this purple top.
But strictly speaking i didn’t buy it either. How it end up in my wardrobe and is rapidly becoming one of my all time favorite pieces is because, one day TK decided to shop in the ladies section in Uniqlo (Super sad, every time he goes to the ladies section you would think he’s so sweet maybe buying something for you right but he’s actually buying stuff for himself F his next GF’s L. -_____-) and bought this top without trying, then realized it is too small so he gave it to me.
And guess what?
OMG Dear Malaysia, sorry you are really a bit late in fashion but thank god not that late!!
But Malaysia Boleh because it is gonna be the the largest Uniqlo in South East Asia, eat that Singapore HAHA!!!!

I have a friend from Japan, I ask him whether the clothes selling in uniqlo Singapore is the same as in Japan?
He answer “NOooooo, it’s so different”
So now are we buying the clothes for its name?? Or the design itself? Because for me I don’t think the clothes from uniqlo singapore is nice at all…. In fact I would say that it’s a higher version of Giodano or Hang Ten
i used to work at uniqlo. and the stuff are all brought in from japan itself..

I LOVE UNIQLO! They’re my favourite women’s clothing brand at the moment, their unique, simple style is what draws me to them (and the price of course!) You can layer styles up and team the casual basics with anything. 🙂
