@Daryl: I learned archery once and the instructor told us that we had to pull the string to touch our nose (so that it would have a firm resting place), I guess that’s what they were doing, and it touched the mouth as well.

When u pull the string, it cuts the nose/cheek as an anchor point. You would then know the same position every time and produces the same result (almost). Otherwise every shot will be different and have to calibrate every time. ;)
