Snow Time in Nagano

March 8, 2020

The next chapter of our journey led us to this prefecture in central Japan known as a winter sports destination with its majestic mountains and bountiful hot springs. The 1998 Nagano Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games brought its name to worldwide attention and it has never looked back since. Today, we’ll show how you can explore this scenic prefecture without getting active in sports – unless you count shopping as one!

Visit every attractions featured on this course or take a pick to slot it into your itinerary – the choice is yours. read more

Tobu World Square

November 26, 2017

To be honest, I didn’t have very high expectation when I visited Tobu World Square, an open-air architecture museum/theme park located in the Kinugawa Onsen area, Tochigi Prefecture.

I have never heard of this theme park before prior to this trip, and the name of the park itself doesn’t give much of a hint, so for me it was more like a by-the-way visit since it is just right across the brand new station “Tobu World Square” en route to Nikko.

But I was blown away by the experience. And I want to recommend every one who is visiting Tochigi to make this a compulsory stop on your itinerary, especially if you are someone who loves taking Instagram-worthy photos! read more

Ringer Hut – Nagasaki Champon

August 17, 2016

(This is about the noodle from Kyushu, not the Shiba in our house.)

I rarely do restaurant reviews but today I want to introduce a fast-food chain called Ringer Hut in Japan, which specializes in Nagasaki Champon.

The danna would crave for Ringer Hut every now and then when we are back to Japan. I have had Ringer Hut many times before, while I think it is quite delicious, it never struck me as life-changing, as how Ichiran Ramen does for some foreign tourists.

But then I understood that it was because Champon is the danna’s soul food since he grew up eating it in Nagasaki. He said it is just like fried beehoon for me. Yeah that makes sense. My whole childhood was pretty much all about fried beehoon lolol. The school canteen sold it, birthday parties or any sort of gathering/party would for sure have it, my mom cooks it (until today). read more
