I’d say it’s conformism, when krispy kreme first came out in melb last year(which was available in syd for quite sometime), people drove to a place 35km away from the city centre and lined up for HOURS just to buy it.
Not strictly kiasuism cause moot people here just want to try it for the sake of trying it.
mayb it’s the ‘in’ thing now, coz the big apple donuts and coffee in 1Utama, omg, freakin alwiz got queue of at least 10 ppl, accordin to frens, the same outlet in the curve oso has long queues, i tried their cheese flavor 1, well, for a cheese lover, i din really like it? mayb if it was in a cream form or sumthing, it’ll b nice, try it tho cheesie and mayb let me know? 🙂
Well not really. We’ve had Krispy Kreme like forever in Indonesia, plus J.Co’s been there for several years now, but long queues are still very normal it’s so tiring -.- but I got to queue I LOVE their heaven berry :0
Well… Finally JCO is in Malaysia. Hallelujah! Its simply the BEST doughnut in the world. Just some fun fact: JCO is from Indonesia you know? (I’m proud to be Indonesian for once :P)
The owner is actually a famous hairdresser. The chef got the recipe from bread talk bread. That’s y its just soooo heavenly. Cant resist I tell yea… Its’s addictive.
After careful observation and research, I have come up with some possible reasons on why this is happening at all JCO outlets:
1. The brand carries itself very well compared to its cousins big apple and dunkin donuts which has already been in Malaysia like for ages. So it’s like people saying I wanna buy “Pampers” instead of diapers or at least they wouldn’t say they wanted to buy Mami poko or Huggies.
2. It’s an asian brand that we can all relate to..support our neighbours rather that the american brands.
3. It’s got wacky names for its donuts and it is said that their donuts are health concious..well, that what it says on their website.
4. The donuts are designed in their own freaky attractive way as well as the beverages especially the “Create your own beverage”.
5. People mistaking it for starbucks!
6. People just wanna get into the hype with false rumours about how good it is…
i jus came back from kl last week. and i had the JCo donuts. it was damn yummyyy! if you wanna try, i suggest yu go in the morning. like at 10 perhaps. 😀 its reli soft.. and deliciouss
Cherrie: yes they do. I haven’t tried J.Co. Don’t really believe in donuts. O.o Aodian: Fiber?!? Like i said before. I still think they are the mostest cavity-causingly-sugar-coated, calorie-riddenly-deep-fried, stomach-bulgingly-fattening confectionery ever created, with a pointless hole in the middle. Aki: Any answer yet? :D: Nooo way. He’s on Kenko Diet Plum Diet. Please don’t spoil his wonderful diet plan. ronlim: i wonder if they queue 2nd time for it! cozzie: Ok ok i have to admit that i was desperately in search for a Krispy Kreme shop the first day i went to london. misha: smart misha donut! omie: lol good one. ying bin: thanks for the help sweet! tiger^cub: The cheese flavored one from Big Apple is not bad. But i don’t really like a cheesy donut. Sounds weird. Anyway there’s also this chicken floss donut which also sounds very gross! steff: really? maybe i should try! they sure come up with diff kinds of fancy flavors everyday! azeelia: try going on a weekday morning. no queue at all! lil angel: i wonder how much he paid Bread Talk! idunnoliao: i also dunno liao. nicole: i think it will. I don’t think its all that delicious! Opening a donut shop contributes to national obesity!!! Vivian: There are equally long queue at Big Apple too! 夏娃: have you tried Krispy Kreme? 😀 Karyn: (un)fortunately Krispy Kreme is not here (yet)? ironhart: Really? But i’d never even heard of it before! But it sure does have fancier drinks than Big Apple. They’ve come up with this “It’s hot to be cool” beverages. ryls: i never got attracted to donuts. Luckily! aLExpikachU: yea it does. the original one should be less sweet than the rest. fr0stie: I know right. The latest food fashion. Not diet friendly at all.
I think it’s the colour of their outlet..
Maybe it’s because of the amount of sugar they put on their donuts..
Malaysians are going nuts for donuts.. -_-
It’s been like this in Sg before we even got Big Apple here, be them Dunkin’ Factory or Big Apple or JCO…ppl are queuing everywhere like hungry Homer! I have friends who asked me to buy dozens of DUNKIN’ DONUTS for them as well, like unbelievable!
usually when i’m back in kl…it’ll only be from saturday night to sunday night….say 24 hours, and i need at least 6 hours of sleep. and 4 hours of family time at least. and i’m left with no more than 10 hours for friendship obligations! time is precious….i aint gonna waste my time q-ing up for doughnuts!
Not sure why also but I will not wait for such a long queue somehow, maybe because I don’t fancy donuts that much.
My buddy once bought me J&Co donuts from … Jakarta? and then Krispy Kreme from Sydney, it was delicious and different from those we have here (i.e. Dunkin Donuts) but somehow I don’t crave for it though.
i asked that same friggin question all too many times… last time already got donuts….they had errr dunkin was it? but no one buys, when opens j.co, or big apple, all rushing in. even a colleague of mine queued up for 3 hours during lunch break just to buy them….sigh
sheena: wait til i can find someone who’s willing to queue and tapao for me first 😀 charlene: maybe it’s time we had our own donut chain. smoochieee: where, in Pavilion? rachteng: donuts are never not sweet! i think they should come up with low carb/sugar free donuts for on-diet-but-dying-to-eat-donuts people. Aki: 😀 so cute. Dunkin Donut Boy: it’s time to change nick name! Olivia: Indonesia apparently. tom: and the fancy names of their donut. tristan: i thought dunkin’s tastes really plastic! jyushiang: oh no. we’re all turning yellow. sheon: then call your friends up. “hey, doing anything today? wanna go queue for donuts?” ping: agreed. i feel exactly the same. calv: WHAT KIND OF LUNCH BREAK IS 3 HOURS!!!???666
I know the donuts are good but to receive this much fanfare is kind of ridiculous for a piece of donut. Nonetheless I’ve just walloped a dozen of them last weekend, and no, I was not on that line. Thankfully XD. I must say J.Co donuts are better than what we have in Malaysia so far. Maybe with this much of popularity, J.Co would mushroom all over KL and probably the whole of Malaysia. Even so, I’d rather Krispy Kreme to debut on Malaysia soil.
p/s: Those commenter without a flag is probably posting them from either the ISS or the Moon O.o
Olivia: J.Co hails from Indonesia, land of the donuts and the only place where you can get yourself another dozen of Krispy Kreme donuts.
Cherrie: Not sure if I heard this correct but from what I was told, Big Apple and J.Co are of the same owner. But hey, I’m not sure if this is true or not.
Calv: Maybe it’s overrated. But then again, the donuts are good. Not sure if they’re worth the wait though. Honestly I wouldn’t line up for just a couple of donuts, unless you got someone to do it for you 😛
because they want to make the owner very rich
and because when it’s over rated, their minds just automaticly think
“it’s so good i MUST HAVE IT”
even if it means lining up for an hour or more
seriously it’s not even THAT GOOD
i mean its ok but certainly not something to die for
have you tried it yourself then cheesie? If you did, how do you compare it with krispy kreme. But i have to say the same thing, WHY all this fuss for donuts =/. Bear in mind i wasent one of the few to drive 35km, line up for 4 hours just for a dozen, hot, soft, sweet glazed original krispy kreme :P. Serious, I dint.
Maybe because everyone got caught in the donut fever and following the trend. J.CO is owned by an Indonesian hair stylist – Jhonny Andrean. Singapore going to have J.CO too soon by early 2008. It has been spotted. 🙂
Eventhough I tried them so many times, I still want to have them again and again. One reason is because their donut is tender and soft.
Piccola: Which is the most popular in SG? Me: dont think it is either. and fattening. cozzie: nope i dont. sheon: lol. i prefer home delivery! 😀 kormmandos: they are? surfnux: waaa why you all know so well about the founder one! aaron: you can be a donut critique! skyler: who so siao!!!666 cieri: in a donut shell, they are “pretty delicious donuts”. smoochieee: i think i saw you guys too! wombok: go take a 3 hours lunch break! michael: i wonder how they survive nowadays… ahlost: must be a conspiracy the donut people have with slimming centers. grace: go to the office and collect! thats what i did… bodoh ppl: !!! vian: ask bf to tapao! 😀 percy: it’s all the popular bloggers fault. gave them so much publicity!!! lenny: i like BA’s shop color better! 😀 dll: o.o jac: we give it 2 months!
i’ve tried tat when i’m at kl, even blog about it too.
for me i am curious, since everyone is talking about, i must try it.
i dun really like to eat sweet stuff.. especially stuffed with cream.
somehow, its a good try, and i think its quite yummy.
hey I didnt realise u went to london, its nice huh?
Should have gone to Hamleys… big big toy shop, every kids heaven ^^
anyway Im just a reader of ur blog and thinks its cool u went to my country hehe~ merry christmas~X
kiasu-ism, i guess?
cuz no Kripy Kreme!! 😉
Because J.Co has yummy cheese flavour donuts! 😛
Rachel: Logical reason.
Porkie: Good reason.
babyballet: Very good reason.
I thought Big Apple has cheese flavoured donuts as well?
I like J.Co donuts better than Big Apple’s. 😀 Fluffier, chewier… yum…
ppl need to tambah fibre in their diet? or they just wanna get fatter hehe.. ~cheers
I asked wwwhy, too
(-.
Because it’s christmas, and they are all going to send the treats to santa cause he’s getting thinner.
It’s that inexplicable mob mentality of Malaysians when it comes to something deemed “must have”…
Remember McD’s Hello Kitty collections?
Insane if you ask me.
I’d say it’s conformism, when krispy kreme first came out in melb last year(which was available in syd for quite sometime), people drove to a place 35km away from the city centre and lined up for HOURS just to buy it.
Not strictly kiasuism cause moot people here just want to try it for the sake of trying it.
yeah .. because there is NO krispy kreme hahaha
their donut making machine broken down?
Hmm,I oso dunno y,never tried b4.Nice Xmas layout!It’s fixed! 😀
mayb it’s the ‘in’ thing now, coz the big apple donuts and coffee in 1Utama, omg, freakin alwiz got queue of at least 10 ppl, accordin to frens, the same outlet in the curve oso has long queues, i tried their cheese flavor 1, well, for a cheese lover, i din really like it? mayb if it was in a cream form or sumthing, it’ll b nice, try it tho cheesie and mayb let me know? 🙂

Tried to get myself some doughnuts too but at Big Apple, giler long queue keh…grrrr.
Everyone is crazy over Doughnuts!!! =P
the craze will die off later OR… er… maybe not :P~
i dunno.. I wanna know the reason too.. =P lol!
I tried JCO few days ago.. got taste much difference than Big Apple meh? @_@??
because those donuts are too delicious
*yummy*
XD
Big Apple vs JCo?
After careful observation and research, I have come up with some possible reasons on why this is happening at all JCO outlets:

6. People just wanna get into the hype with false rumours about how good it is…
7. Donuts and coffee, what can go wrong?
i jus came back from kl last week. and i had the JCo donuts. it was damn yummyyy! if you wanna try, i suggest yu go in the morning. like at 10 perhaps. 😀 its reli soft.. and deliciouss
No comment =.=
I’m wondering too, its look like very sweety……
i guess it’s the “when in doubt, just follow the mob” mentality ~
ooooh~ bandwagons ! hop on folks !
Cherrie: yes they do. I haven’t tried J.Co. Don’t really believe in donuts. O.o

Aww wish i was in malaysia right now 😀
Chigz: omg where are you!!!666 how come you don’t have a flag!!!666 Are you… sent from the above?!? Or… some evil unregistered residence.
Try J.Co! Then compare…

Dunkin Donuts already out of the picture… 😛

merry xmas in advanced!
because j.co donuts are over rated. and super duper sweet. 😛
They told me, “They told me it’s nice,”~
Did somebody say donuts ? Yum! Yum!
I heard that J.Co donuts is from Philipine,no ,wait.Or was it Indonesia??hmmm
either one, anyways.
I think it’s the colour of their outlet..
Maybe it’s because of the amount of sugar they put on their donuts..

Overrated I guess? Or perhaps the dawn of a new beginning we are all turning to Homer Simpson. 😀
-Spiderpig, Spiderpig..-

Yay! I got my flag correct this time.
Brian: The chicken pox did go away fast 😀
Probably the queue mentality. “Oooh.. long queue = good food” It’s the same query i have with Donut factory in singapore
because they want to make the owner very rich
and because when it’s over rated, their minds just automaticly think
“it’s so good i MUST HAVE IT”
even if it means lining up for an hour or more
seriously it’s not even THAT GOOD

hey cheesie……………doing anything this sunday? wanna go queue for donuts?
I think they are from Singapore…
Maybe because everyone got caught in the donut fever and following the trend. J.CO is owned by an Indonesian hair stylist – Jhonny Andrean. Singapore going to have J.CO too soon by early 2008. It has been spotted. 🙂
Eventhough I tried them so many times, I still want to have them again and again. One reason is because their donut is tender and soft.
totally over-rated! J.Co donuts felt empty inside… when you bite J.Co’s donut…feel like the inside of the bread is airy…
try Big Apple… it felt much fuller… and nice… more value for your money… J.Co is a rip off!
I with these three people who bought SEVEN DOZEN doughnuts between them last week O_O
is it delicious??kinda weird.just donuts rite?
cheesie, we were in the pavillion branch.
is it really that good? 😛 Haven’t tried yet.
Cos Malaysian dunno bout krispy kreme =.=”
but ok oso la. as dunkin donuts taste like sh*t
“ppl are paying to gain weight” says someone.. *LOL*
Cheesie! I still haven’t gotten the third issue of Twentyfour7 though I went to three Starbucks d :'(
malaysians dunno about krispy kremes??? who u think ur??? mr been-there-done-that??
haha.. yaya.. i wondering why too..!!~~
that’s why wish to have a try but everytime long long queue.. @_@lll
i think maybe the review on the newspaper or the net, overrated them?
I think that Big Apple and J.co donuts are the same..
same flavour, same taste, same designs @_@
however, J.Co is more famous than Big Apple..
hehe.
its all because of the hole!!!
I’d say it’s just a fad. 🙂
Piccola: Which is the most popular in SG?
Me: dont think it is either. and fattening.
cozzie: nope i dont.
sheon: lol. i prefer home delivery! 😀
kormmandos: they are?
surfnux: waaa why you all know so well about the founder one!
aaron: you can be a donut critique!
skyler: who so siao!!!666
cieri: in a donut shell, they are “pretty delicious donuts”.
smoochieee: i think i saw you guys too!
wombok: go take a 3 hours lunch break!
michael: i wonder how they survive nowadays…
ahlost: must be a conspiracy the donut people have with slimming centers.
grace: go to the office and collect! thats what i did…
bodoh ppl: !!!
vian: ask bf to tapao! 😀
percy: it’s all the popular bloggers fault. gave them so much publicity!!!
lenny: i like BA’s shop color better! 😀
dll: o.o
jac: we give it 2 months!
Cheesie: hehe cos I am from the same country as the founder and I get the news from everywhere. 😛
i’ve tried tat when i’m at kl, even blog about it too.
for me i am curious, since everyone is talking about, i must try it.
i dun really like to eat sweet stuff.. especially stuffed with cream.
somehow, its a good try, and i think its quite yummy.
its not healthy though its tasty, not worth the queue…
rumours say that J.co actually paid some people to Q.
people will get curious when they see long Q.
It’s one type of their way on publicity.
thats exactly what i thought…the first few queue-ers were their own ppl…its their marketing strategy.
to bodoh ppl:
thats not wat i mean. i’m just a lame joker i guess.
but thanks god hk have 6 branches of krispy kreme…dun need to queue~hehe
nine out of ten donut lovers might agree that krispy kreme is the best!
i would never queue for doughnuts or other foods…the longer the queue the more i refuse…
Chessie, I agree
I choose BA over J.CO
=D
ops, type wrongly,
cheesie, great apologies =p
cheesie, well from where i work, we have 2 hours lunch, but 3 hours is accceptable at times…
Brian: they line up not to buy just a couple of donuts ok!! they got in line for 6 friggin dozens!!
hey I didnt realise u went to london, its nice huh?
Should have gone to Hamleys… big big toy shop, every kids heaven ^^
anyway Im just a reader of ur blog and thinks its cool u went to my country hehe~ merry christmas~X
Shelli: I did!!! 😀 😀 I love it! Merry Xmas to you too!
like someone said above. just a fad. like all those rotiboy fad last time.
believe it or not.. j.co is more popular than krispy creme back in indonesia..
