You won’t leave Tokyo without any shopping, and today I’m gonna add this to your list of malls to visit – Lotte Duty Free Ginza!

If you are visiting Japan from overseas, it would be a waste not to make use of your tourist status to shop for tax-free, but do you know what’s even better than tax-free? Tax AND Duty free!

Tucked right in the center of Tokyo’s most premium shopping district, Ginza, Lotte Duty Free Ginza is the largest duty free store in Tokyo.

It is located on the 8th and 9th floor of Tokyu Plaza Ginza, merely 1-minute walk from Ginza Station exit c2.

Cosmetics

The entire 9th floor is dedicated mostly to branded cosmetics and skin care products. You will find both international and popular Japanese brands here.

World-renowned names like Jo Malone.

Hot-selling Sekkisei by Kose.

The very Ginza-born premium skin care range by Shiseido – The Ginza.

And everybody’s dream cosme, also the top-selling brands in Lotte Duty Free Ginza – Cle de Peau.

Of course just like departmental stores, feel free to try out their sample products.

I have heard so so much good reviews about their magic foundation!! When I save enough money I’ll come back and buy! Haha.

Other than long-established brands, I love how they also carry many limited edition products! I bought this on my flight to Japan on JAL’s inflight duty free shopping, I didn’t expect them to sell it here! I really really love it, it’s my must-have during flights.

On the 8th floor, you can find luxury fashion and accessories brands. These stores are not only duty-free priced, a lot of them are also on sale! So sometimes you can find deals as good as 70-80% off.

Tax Free Zone

On the 9th floor, there’s also a section where you can find tax-free products!

I know! I was a little confused too at first. So I’ll explain a little so that you can shop at ease and know how to differentiate the two!

Duty Free: The goods are exempted from all taxes, just like the duty-free stores you can find inside airports! And the catch is, it’s only for customers (including residents of Japan) who are traveling out of Japan – you can only collect your products after you have cleared custom at the airport. I’ll elaborate more on that later.

Tax Free: The goods are exempted from consumption tax. You can bring these items with you after you have purchased them.

Welcome to the tax free zone! These are more common products you can find in many stores in the city, but I love how you can find many very popular products here and just get them at one go without having to go through tax-free procedures one by one at various stores.

They are selling cosmetics and skin care that are of very affordable prices, lifestyle goods and more.

You can find your usual drugstore brands like Anessa and Canmake.

How to shop at Lotte Duty Free Ginza

So, the fun part begins! How do you go about this whole duty-free shopping?

Step 1: Make sure that you have your passport and flight itinerary with you (or any other proof that you are departing Japan). I recommend you to do your shopping at least 1 day before your flight as LOTTE Duty Free Ginza will take a day to deliver your purchased item to the airport.

Step 2: Enjoy shopping!!!

Step 3: Once you have picked your products, you will be given a product card like this:

I bought a Travel Limited Edition eye cream from Shiseido! I love travel-size products XD.

Step 4: Bring the card to the cashier to make payment. Don’t forget to present your VIP member card if you have one for extra discount! Passport and flight itinerary will be needed for this step as they will have to arrange the goods to be sent to the airport you will depart from.

Step 5: Receive an “Exchange Ticket”. It looks like a receipt and is kept nicely for you in a folder. Please safe-keep it until your departure. Don’t accidentally pack into your lugggage and check in!

Step 6: Pick up from airport. (Please note that the service is available for Haneda or Narita Airports in Tokyo only)

After clearing immigration at Haneda or Narita Airport, please pick up your purchased items at the “Duty Free Pick Up” counter. There’s a map for all counters illustrated on the folder of your Exchange Ticket.

FYI I picked it up at Haneda Airport before flying back to Changi, an the Duty Free Pick Up counter is right near my departure gate, near the food court area!

Just present your Exchange Ticket, and receive your goods! 😀
