Full Itinerary for JR Kyushu Rail Pass

March 14, 2020

One of my least explored regions in Japan is Kyushu, and I was thrilled to be given this opportunity to go around different prefectures in Kyushu this February!

Here’s my Kyushu Guide using JR Kyushu Rail Pass!

JR Kyushu Rail Pass - All Kyushu Area Pass 5 DAYS

I’m assuming that most of you who are reading this are somewhat, to a mild extent, a Japan maniac like me so I am recommending this itinerary using JR Kyushu Rail Pass –

All Kyushu Area Pass 5 DAYS.

Family-friendly Hotel in Nagasaki

November 18, 2017

No matter how many times I come to this city doing the same things, I never get tired of it.

Just look at this. How could I ever?

Nagasaki is one of my favorite cities in Japan (and I have visited soooo many!), because you will just fall in love before you even realize, and of course, it is extra special because this humble little city holds all my danna’s childhood memories.

We were back to Nagasaki to visit his family this past summer, and the hotel/ryokan that we booked this time was the most amazing, family-friendly hotel I’ve ever stayed in. read more

Nagasaki 2016

November 18, 2016

Photo post on Nagasaki, October 2016.

This is Sakura’s first time going to Nagasaki to visit jiji! Junya’s first time is here.

Breakfast at Haneda airport, at a curry shop called Cuud. Mine was tomato curry, very yummy!

Arrived at Nagasaki and we went straight for lunch!

A super popular Chinese restaurant, where Champon was born, apparently. Champon the noodle, not the Shiba. The Shiba was born in Tokyo 😛

Authentic Champon!!

My mini Champon and gyoza.

Sweet and sour pork, the Japanese version of Ku Lou Yok. read more

Live Squid in Saga Prefecture

May 28, 2016

Stealing some time to blog during the nap time of two babies!!

During our trip to Nagasaki earlier this March, we had one day free after our overnight stay in Huis Ten Bosch, so the danna asked if I wanted to visit Saga prefecture, which is about just half an hour drive away from Sasebo, where Huis Ten Bosch is located.

I was super excited and asked him, “what’s there to see in Saga???” and he was like, “Nothing.”

He only wanted to bring me there because he knew I wanted to check one more prefecture off my life mission (which is to visit ALL the prefectures in Japan). read more

Huis Ten Bosch with Junya

April 19, 2016

Photo post on Nagasaki!

The danna (then kareshi) and I went to Huis Ten Bosch 4 years ago in spring 2012, this time we brought Junya back to the same theme park in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture.

There was a super romantic Rose Festival back then (they are gonna have it this year too in May), and this time around it was the Tulips Festival.

Huis Ten Bosch’s website here!

I have been to Holland before and I must say this is quite a beautiful replica of little Dutch towns!

Didn’t know tulips come in soooo many pretty colors! read more

Nagasaki Mt Unzen 2015

The danna and I made it a point to go back to Nagasaki for our trip back to Japan despite the super tight schedule this time because we haven’t been back since Junya was 6 months old, and for sure Jiji missed his grandson a lot.

We decided to fly to Nagasaki directly on the first day we landed in Tokyo. We took JAL from Kuala Lumpur so once we landed in Narita, we transferred to Haneda for our domestic flight from Tokyo to Nagasaki. read more

Nagasaki with Junya (III)

May 24, 2015

To continue from the previous post on Unzen, Nagasaki!

So the danna, Jiji, JunJun and i was on a family trip to Unzen, a place famous for its hotspring (and the volcano) in Nagasaki. And we stayed at one of the traditional Ryokan.

I looooooove Tatami.

AND!!!

Private onsen. There was an outdoor onsen bath connected to our room. It was freezing cold in January but was worth everything.

JunJun’s second hot spring experience! He loved it!! Cony has the same smile as Junya, so instead of Brown the danna is given a Cony face instead lol. read more

Mount Unzen, Nagasaki

April 28, 2015

This was on the third day of new year in Nagasaki.

We woke up early morning and had breakfast in Sukiya!

Given a choice we didn’t really want to have fast food after flying all the way to Nagasaki, but the thing about Oshougatsu is that it is also the only time all the good local restaurants close for business. It’s the time for family. Once in a year.

It is also Jiji’s only off days in a year.

So on the 3rd Jan 2015, we had a 3-generation overnight family trip to a hot spring in Nagasaki called Unzen. The Kanji is 雲仙. This would be the first time the danna spent a night together with his father in… decades. And also the first ever time Junya travelled with Jiji. read more

Nagasaki with Junya (II)

April 22, 2015

This was on 2nd January, 2015, Nagasaki.

I have never ever thought that there would be someone reading my blog in Nagasaki. But there was.

When i posted pictures of my journey on Instagram, a follower, Agnes left me a comment and invited me to drop by the little patisserie she was working at.

And we did. It was just within walking distance from our hotel.

The shop is called “Little Angels”, and is owned by a French lady who has been staying Nagasaki for a long time.

The patisserie is a lovely pastel pink from outside in. And i heard from the locals that this is a pretty popular shop in Nagasaki city! read more

Nagasaki with Junya (I)

April 14, 2015

This was back on 1st January 2015, when Junya was 6 month old.

The first of January marks the first day of Oshougatsu (Japanese new year), and this year we decided to spend our new year with family in Nagasaki. ❤︎

Haneda airport!

Whose baby is that???

Entertaining the baby.

😛

Rainbow crane photo frame!

Our first meal of the year at a soba shop. Usually people eat soba on new year eve, but we only had instant soba the night before lolol so today was revenge day XD

This white thing is Sasakama, a type of kamaboko (fish cake). read more

Nagasaki 2013 Part 2!

Part 1 HERE.

Anyway, when it comes to Nagasaki, it automatically means live squid eyeball.

This time nobody shove the eyeball into my mouth. Probably they are very rude and don’t care about us.

After that it ended up in our plate again, this time sun-tanned.

What is Nagasaki without sashimi so fresh it is still moving. Was so so so good.

BREAKFAST

Our breakfast at the hotel is amaaaaazing.

Nagasaki food is very much influenced by Chinese culture, so there’s the famous sara udon (the one like HongKong Yee Mee), sweet and sour prawn, xiao long bao, etc etc! Everything was so yummy! read more

Nagasaki 2013

October 7, 2013

The last time i was in Nagasaki was when i got married the first time last Christmas eve.

(Just in case: second time is in Santorini. To the same person.)

And so Nagasaki will always hold a special place in my heart. And forgive me if i blog about the same-ish stuff this year again or sound repetitive, because we always go back to the same restaurant/same favorite spots. Of course and also to visit family.

Nagasaki is at the west end of Japan, so there are lots of sea and most of the houses in Nagasaki has a breathtaking view either of the mountain or the sea. read more
