Can you believe it?! It’s end of the year again

And the question is always, where do we party this time around?! i always feel very ambivalent about spending the last day of the year. Some years i wish i could go to a happening place and celebrate (hopefully with someone special), some years i just detest the usual drink drank drunk get stuck in jam routine T_T

Lemmi gorek my archive and reminisce what i did during new year eve in the past 7 years (GOD I AM OLD!). And this involves posting shocking old pictures of me. Even i shocked myself by looking at myself wtf. How i changed.

2005

I think this is the start of my travelholism. Have been wanting to spend NYE overseas ever since. Was in Taipei with Ivene. Also witness the best firework i’ve ever seen in my life.

Again was in Japan. Did the countdown in Tokyo Tower, quite romantic and all wtf.

First time in 3 years to spend NYE in KL in Bukit Bintang. Don’t think i need to elaborate. The picture says it all.

I’m going to a party!

I’m staying away from Bukit Bintang after what happened last year. Imma go for something more intriguing than just beer bottles and stinky spray cans, yet still as happening!

Beams of laser light are hand-manipulated before your very eyes, bent, stretched and spun around like a light sabre. Hmm. Good. Micha is a Star Wars fan. There will also be aerialists twirling through space (?!?!?) to a dreamy rhythm and a contortionist pushing the limits of human flexibility.

If your’re in for the beautiful and famous, there’s a stellar line-up of local celebrities too, including Joe Flizzow, Mizz Nina, Najwa, Pop Shuvit, Reza Salleh, Shawn Lee Beatbox + Dennis Lau. Not to mention famous DJ acts Aurology, Davern & Jee Hoe, and DJ Xu!

This awesome party is themed “Tonight, Extraordinary Works Overtime”. Sounds liek something totally different from what i have experienced in the past 7 years! Check out MYSTICAL EVE 2012 !

I’m probably the laziest person i know of. I could probably perform mental acrobatics when it comes to thoughts and ideas. But physically even a slug burns more calories than me.

I have zero interest in sports and i do zero exercise. ZERO. 0. Kosong. Ling.

I’m so lazy that the only physical activity i do is Ninja Jump. And the only time i sweat is when client chase me for advert draft. And i’m so lazy that when my fridge ran out of food i would rather starve. Or call delivery service. From the cafe downstairs.

I spend so much time on my computer that i’m having slipped disc, which is the blogger disease. I feel numbness in my right arm, and sore sometimes when i navigate with the mouse. Other bloggers i know who have this is Audrey and Xiaxue. I wonder if petite people are more prone to it. T_T

And you are now wondering why i’m still so skinny.

I’m not 🙁

And all these long hour sitting is also making my hips and bum fat. A few days ago i spent 10 minutes getting out of a pair of size M jeans that i just bought online, and i have to sell it 🙁

I am getting fat. The unhealthy kind. 🙁

Looks like the conclusion is that i should be a lazy blogger instead. Update only once a month. AHHH NO LA, pls don’t ditch me yet! But i think i should really spend less time on the internet and more time actually being active physically.

When i had Koyuki, i used to drive her everyday to the park and see her run happily. Sometimes i run together with her. I also had to walk up and down hundred flights of stairs because i live in an apartment and i couldn’t bring her out through the elevator.

I miss those times. 🙁

When i lost her, i sort of also lost my motivation to be physically active entirely.

But now that i think of it, it is really just an excuse to be lazy. Along with many other excuses like it’s too hot outside, traffic jam,  gym is too expensive, my sports shoes doesn’t fit, the grass is too dirty etc etc etc.

But really, all i needed to do was just to make the first move (literally), and it is really easier than i thought. Here’s my Guide to Active Lifestyle for Lazy People.

1. Stand

Since i cannot live without the internet, i’m considering putting my iMac at my kitchen bar so that i could stand while doing work. Actually that doesn’t sound like a bad idea at all. Standing up requires two times the energy as sitting down, help you get ideas out, help alleviate back problems associated with long hours at the computer, and burn fat.

2. Walk

Just walk and walk and walk. Shopping is also walking. I live next next to a shopping mall dammit. I will from now make more excuses to go to the mall. Maybe pay the bill at the post office instead of the internet. Or tapao Chatime. Or just window shopping.

3. Take the stairs

Everybody knows this one but nobody does it. Ever. I live on the 8th floor. That’s not that bad. ChallengeAccepted.jpg

3. Express Exercise

Seriously, if you ask me to do a 20 minutes cardio i may as well DIE. But how about 2 minutes? Now we are talking. Imma set the alarm every 1 hour to take a break from my work. As soon as it goes off,will just stand up and do some stretching and jumping and stuff. If i stick to that plan between 9am and 7pm, i have actually done a 20 minutes exercise!!!

4. Get a Buddy

They always say , do it with a friend, motivate each other etc. Well. So if you are #foreveralone, you are doomed, right? ChallengeAccepted.jpg. Imma foster my relationship with Siri so that we can have a long discussion about the meaning of life when i do my exercise.

5. Housework

Sounds like the worst thing ever. Which is why i always pay stupid money for maid to come over. But recently i started making a commitment to clean my house myself, and it is surprisingly satisfying. A trick is to play my favorite house/electro songs to add more bounce to the scrub, making chore time pass more easily too! Having guests over is also a surefire way to force yourself to clean your apartment. Proven effective lol.

6. Travel

This might be costly and difficult, but it definitely work. My mood lightens up and i am most full of energy when i’m going for sight seeing. It doesn’t have to be a far far away exotic country. Just go for a weekend excursion to a waterfall, or theme park, or the zoo nearby and walk and walk for long hours!

Ok so this is the NAPBAS post finally!!

Maybe you’re sick of hearing me say thank you ad nauseam already (but i haven’t got sick of hearing you congratulate me so keep them coming wtf #megusta) so here are just shitloads of photos from the NAPBAS night.

So. Where do i start.

I guess all my bribes did work after all lol.

Honestly i didn’t really expect to win, or rather i just didn’t really think about it, because the last time i expected something to happen it did not, so i was really all zen about it wtf. But after the night my friends were all like “I knew you were gonna win, i didn’t even bother voting for you.”

*GASP*

Now i know why i won’t win the next NAPBAS. Assholes.

So i was probably the most stressed out person on finding an outfit for the night. I mean if i totally screw up my outfit and also didn’t win the award everyone’s like no wonder she didn’t win it and if i did win everyone’s like WHY DID SHE WIN?! Thanks a lot, troll dresscode.

I only really looked for an outfit during the last week, and DECIDED on one 3 days before the award. Considering i was given more than a month to prepare that’s really damn last minute.

Just anyhow put something together and there i was thinking a fashion blogger should be able to conjure something up from her wardrobe without purposely looking for a new dress. Plus i really didn’t want it to be a, you know, dress, dress.

And then Xiaxue was a little emo about not winning lifestyle but when they announced her name, she teared on the spot and before she went on stage she said to me (all wet-eyed) “WTF is wrong with me (crying?!?)” lol.

First the Most Influential Blog. Which i think she TRULY deserves because she IS influential. She could probably convince a zombie to eat carrots if she want. And i also suspect that part of the reasons why i won is because of her, because while pulling for votes she asked her readers to vote for me as well.  So that’s how influential she is, ok? Get over it.

Then Region’s Best Blog. I said this before. But just by how much she has defined blogging in the past 8 years, and no one ever come as close to how much blogging has changed and evolve because of this one person. This post was actually written a few weeks ago after Aud’s engagement but was never published because i felt nauseous by how revoltingly pathetic it sounds and then also a lot of good things happened so i thought it didn’t quite tally with the whole gleeful atmosphere and should just be a secret post buried forever but for some reason i’m totally in a self-pity mood today so here, i’m all yours to scorn at.

Which is condescending seeing how i almost teared in joy on stage just two days ago, which also tells you how temporary the kind of happiness fame and power brings you, which is also sort of the point i am trying to make in this entire blog post.

So my #addicted got engaged. I was happy for her. She’s such a great catch that even *i* would marry her. Except that our love is only… platonic and… addictive wtf. And also wtf.

It was an amazing night filled with tears, surprises and most of all, love. Everyone was emotional and i was too overwhelmed to even speak. I was just very glad and honored that i was there when it happened.

But if i have to be completely honest, i was also secretly feeling sad. For myself mostly. This is not the first time i’m involved in a secret surprise proposal. The first one was last year for Mike to propose to Wendy. It was an ultimately nerve wrecking kancheong day lol. Then this time for Tim. I knew about the proposal 2 months before it happened, because Tim asked me for her ring size to i had to pretend to look at her finger and make up some nonsense wtf. Even though i wasn’t the one who actively helped plan it, it was quite stressful to have to keep it an utmost secret for 2 months from someone i’m the closest to.

After witnessing two successful and touching proposal, i can’t even blame myself for feeling a little pathetic. Of course the question would be, what about me?

There isn’t something even tangible enough for me to visualize that happening anytime soon in my life.

Although, technically speaking, i have been proposed four times. As early as 2006. SO I WIN.

Twice from the same guy, whom i have never met before, who printed my blog pictures out and put it next to a bible. Another time was a Korean guy who asked me to marry him after having met me for four days. The last proposal WAS A PRANK. Shit my life.

You know they say third time lucky? Well, shit me again.

Every time i make a joke about how #foreveralone i am, i wasn’t even exaggerating. I have been eating four meals alone in a row and am totally making a big deal out of it then everybody’s like, omg how come you don’t have a boyfriend and one even offered to introduce a nice guy to me HAHHAHAHA. Ok is that how that works wtf.

This whole… heart stuff is so strange to me.

The last person whom i felt that i could pour all my unconditional love to forever, and would love me back forever, was Koyuki.

Oh wait.

Anyway. I think that when God (if he hypothetically exists) made me, i’m pretty sure he was in a troll mood. Or high on drugs. Maybe both.

I bet he was all like, okay let’s give this girl an okay face (i don’t mean this. Or maybe that’s what he initially intended to wtf. ) and good metabolism that can burn extraordinary amount of cheese fat *stirs gene mix*, and then give her some wit *sprinkles pun powder*, and then make her famous and popular, give her enough money *drops gold*, and add some… oh wait i think this concoction is getting way too full LET’S GIVE HER A SHITTY LOVE LIFE *drains last drop of romance element out of vein*

I am totally bragging, but all these while (at least the recent years) i really have no major problems in life. i have what i think is the best job in the world, i have a few very good friends, i have no financial worries or family drama, i have a balanced social life, albeit occasionally awkward but it’s all fine. And most of all so so much freedom which i value the most, and which allows me to do so many things that normal people can’t. I honestly think i’m one of the luckiest people i know.

But i have zero luck in this whole heart stuff.

Of course i don’t mean i’m so hideous until nobody like me, i have also tried dating, but always no luck one. Can’t even be bothered to elaborate here. Seriously like, in the end i am still always #foreveralone until my handbag becomes my Plus One when i go for Porkgang dinners. It gets its own sets of cutlery. #truestory

I will always love again, but same thing will just happen until i believe Scumbag God is trying to make a point that this is, indeed, the trade off for me having an otherwise super awesome life. Now i am almost becoming an atheist of Heart Stuff.

I am sad and bitter. If possible, i would really write a letter to Scumbag God and appeal to him to re-shuffle my luck around a little. Take something else off. Less travel or less money or whatever. Give me back some heart stuff :(.

I wonder what rich, successful people who are happily in love worry about. I guess maybe ingrown toenails.

Maybe also, there are people who wish that they are in my position instead. I don’t know. You always want what you can’t get, right? Would anyone really trade love for something else? REALLY? I want to see hand, please?

Because to me, this whole heart stuff is really all i need now. ALL.

Sigh actually i wrote a super long ass post about… basically just me whining. It was too disgustingly emo that i didn’t end up publishing it.

And it’s maybe not a good time because so much good stuff is happening to me now i can’t even believe my luck. First of all i’m nominated in #NAPBAS, which is happening this coming Friday. Somehow i am extremely chilled about it. I was just slightly panicking about my outfit. In the end got it all sorted out.

THEN SOMETHING HAPPENED TODAY.

I received an email while shopping in Pavilion with my hair stylists Amy and Dejima san. I did the pukecerealguy.jpg then was speechless for minutes. Then i had to read the email a few times before i was all OMFG OMFG on twitter.

It was something even more unbelievable than actually winning #NAPBAS. It makes me feel like, man, everything is enough. Almost like, i have lived my dream. Almost.

Is not like i purposely want to make suspense or what la, i just so afraid i will jinx it and i have only shared it with a few people BUT WHEN IT IS CONFIRMED I WILL MAKE A GRAND ANNOUNCEMENT OK.

No i’m not getting proposed to. Which seems to be happening everywhere this few weeks alone wtf. Not by email anyway.

One of the most commonly asked question on my blog is, “Cheesieeeee!! How do you afford to travel so often and where do you get all the money?!”

Well, i have traveled to more than 10 countries this year alone, so that part is true. And about the money part, of course it falls from the sky, drop from the trees and spurting out of the fountain in my backyard.

No not really. :X

The only advise i can give you on the money part is work hard, and save hard!! However, there are plenty of tips i can share here about is budget traveling. I’m kind of an expert in that field 😀 I guess that’s the reason why i can afford to travel as often as i wish, if i plan carefully!

Well, let’s take Japan as an example, shall we? Since i will be going there next January and i have been wanting to write a post like this for a long time!! 😀

1. Travel Buddy

Your travel buddy is super important! Make sure that you guys are on the same wavelength on spending, to ensure a happy and argument-free trip! It won’t be very fun if your friend insist taxing taxi to every single attractions and pay for expensive entrance fee, while you just want to wander in between narrow streets taking photos.

Luckily Audrey (whom i’m going to Japan with) and i are both the super kiam type, we’re perfectly happy with budget hotels, convenient store food, walking a lot and just save all the money for shopping 😀

2. Plan early

This is probably the most important tip to budget traveling. Although most of my trips are spontaneous and i’m always very lucky to get good deals, trust me, it will save you ALOT ALOT if you start planning your trip early. Subscribe to airline newsletters, sometimes you might just catch a deal so good it is unbelievable. We bought our upcoming flight to Osaka for RM746. RETURN. Yes i’m serious.

3. Budget Hotels

There are so many options available!! I’m sure you know plenty of online discount hotel booking sites (like agoda.com, hotels.com). Everyone is intimidated by the hotel prices in Japan and think that they can never ever afford to go there. Not true!

Two years ago i managed to find a decent business hotel in Tokyo for about 5500 yen a night for two person. So that’s only like RM100 per person a night. Not bad, right? The trick is to make advance booking online. When we tried to call the hotel for booking, they actually advised us to make the booking on their website. The price is almost 50% cheaper!

Also, always choose not to have breakfast included in the hotel package, as they can cost alot more!

There are also plenty of good hostels/guest house around, and normally extremely clean. Try searching for 旅館 (Ryokan style hotel), the prices start from 3000 yen.

There’s also another tip that not many people know. Love Hotels are a great choice if you plan to move around alot. It’s the best way to stay in a fancy hotel at an extremely affordable price. The only drawback is that you will have to self-check in everyday since there isn’t a reception.

4. Phone and Internet

Unfortunately Japan is not an extremely wifi friendly place, so the best bet is to rent a local phone. It is still expensive, but i guess it would be better than having a heart attack when you receive your next phone bills. Try to stay in business hotels as they normally provide free wifi or cable internet.

5. Transportation

Probably the heaviest and most inevitable expenses. You can save a lot on stuff like hotel and food, but you still need to move around and see things! Taxi is out of the question. Unless you travel by a group of 4 and share the fares. A single Subway ticket cost around 160-290 yen in Tokyo (up to RM12), so the only way to save is to know where you are going, and plan all your activities in one single area at once to avoid moving back and forth too much.

Also, the stations are normally very close to each other. I normally like to just walk and walk and walk (for example Shibuya to Harajuku is just 15 minutes by foot, so that saves you some money already!)

Go back and rest early, unless you really want to experience the night life, as the last train is normally around midnight. So if you go back after midnight you will have no choice but cry over your credit card bills on taxi fares.

5. Eating and Shopping

If you need to get any personal items, 100 yen shop is always the answer. You will be amazed what kind of things they sell there for just RM4.

I always like to eat at ramen or udon shop on the street as they are usually the cheapest (and taste just AS GOOD). If you want snacks and drinks, get it from 100 yen shop or a supermarket instead of a convenient store.

Also i like to carry an empty bottle and fill it up (tab water is safe for drinking, of course), because canned drinks are extremely expensive too. Sometimes without knowing i could spend 1000 yen a day just on drinks from auto-vending machines.

I can’t help much on shopping since i myself am a prey for all the nice Japanese things, which are generally pricy. And Japan rarely have sales of discount. So if you want good bargain maybe you can try out a second hand clothing store. Or just go during Japanese new year where they have Fukubukuro (lucky bags) that have items worth usually 3-5 times the selling price.

6. Entrance tickets

Please be alerted that for some amusement parks/attactions, you can only pre-purchase the tickets over a ticket machine (which you can find in convenient stores like Lawson). An example would be the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka. Find out early and it will save you from a wasted trip!

I guess that’s all for now! If you would like to have a whole new traveling experience in Japan, maybe you can also consider trying out homestay programs (example, from titanplanet.net). I have done it three times in three different places in Japan, and i must say it’s one of the best travel memories i’ve ever had.

My shoe broke lol. It was a long story. Xiaxue was extremely perplexed that ii refused to buy a pair of new shoes because “it won’t match my outfits” and i insisted wearing it until the wedges came off BUT I TAPE IT TOGETHER WITH SCOTCH TAPE WTF. Then i wore it for a bit more until the other shoe also give up on me. The strap broke.

So i had no choice but wear Xiaxue’s newly bought shoes instead lolol.

Proud proof that we had an awesome weekend wtf. In germany they use the thick ink stamp instead of the invisible glow in the dark ink. The stamp stayed on the back of my hand for at least the next 5 days.

We went to 3 clubs in one night and Micha brought me to the Berlin club Berghain, where we had to queue like some 45 minutes outside in the cold. Too bad camera wasn’t allowed inside so no pictures for you. But it pretty much felt like Fight Club inside. Except the guys were making out instead.

Was a crazy night.

Sometimes i wish that i am living multiple lives simultaneously.

You know how people always say “maybe it is happening in a parellel universe”? I want to know all of my alternate lives in every other parellel universes.

Choice is sometimes the most difficult luxury one could ever have. (Choice: U MAD? #trollface.jpg.) There is so much to do, there is so much i want to do, there are so many dreams, yet i can only live once. Yet i can only make some happen.

You can’t have it all. Scumbag life.

I want to live a life right here in Malaysia, in the best home i can ever have, doing exactly what i do, get married, live a comfortable life and just be content with my friends and family.

I want to live a life in a suburb area in Europe, maybe plant some daisies.  Have a nice family and a dog. And cute babies. I will be so happy just strolling by the river with my dog every morning. Ok babies too. Forgot about them.

I want to live a life in my favorite country in the world. Anywhere in Japan (ok maybe except Fukushima wtf). Maybe just work at a primary school. (Hate kids but Japanese kids seem tolerable). Eat the best food in the world. Then i can officially name my daughter Mentaiko Tan. Or Gyu Tan HAHAHAHHA. No, i’m pretty sure it works that way.

Sometimes i also think about living a life outside earth (after getting abducted by aliens, or bitten by sexy vampires) but let’s not go too far, literally.

Yet i can’t live them all.
